San Marcos boys golf punched its ticket to the SCGA Qualifier after taking sixth place in the CIF-SS Div. 1 Championship on Tuesday at El Dorado Park in Long Beach.
The Royals will continue their team season at the SCGA Qualifier at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard on Thursday. They will compete against the top 14 teams from all CIF divisions, with the top four advancing.
“Super proud of how the guys played today. They were patient and smart and really had their eyes set on ‘just continuing to advance’ as far as we can,” San Marcos head coach Jeff Ashton said.
“Thursday is a bit more of a familiar track as the boys have quite a bit more experience at River Ridge than they do at El Dorado.”
As for Tuesday’s performance, the Royals finished the day with a combined score of 374 to slot into sixth.
Austin Downing led the way as the lone San Marcos golfer under par, shooting a two-under-par 70.
He was followed by teammates Andy Keenan (73), Nate Duva (73), Axl Wedhammar (77), Ethan Klawuhn (81) and Adam Kabaretti (86).
