San Marcos boys water polo went down to Carpinteria and ran away with a 20-9 victory over Cate on Wednesday afternoon.
The two teams were locked in a tight battle early, as the first quarter ended in a 4-4 tie.
However, the Royals found their footing on both ends of the pool in the second quarter and outscored the Rams 7-2 to take a strong 11-6 lead into halftime.
San Marcos continued to roll in the second half, cruising to the convincing non-league win.
Brandon Lee paced the potent Royal offensive attack with eight goals, while Ryder Wilson swiped six steals and Kumani Roth dished out four assists.
San Marcos will host crosstown rival Dos Pueblos on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
