San Marcos won the grand sweepstakes at the Santa Barbara County Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Santa Ynez High.
The Royals won both boys and girls frosh-soph team titles, finished second in the varsity girls and fourth in the varsity boys division.
Righetti’s boys and girls won the varsity team titles.
“It’s always a great honor knowing that we have depth in all four levels,” said San Marcos coach Marilyn Hantgin.
Makenzie Fauver continued her domination of the girls hurdles, winning the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles. She also ran on the winning 4 x 400 team and on a third-place 4 x 100 team.
“Makenzie had another great day for the Royals. It wasn’t great conditions today, but she ran solid. She has a big day on Thursday down in Oxnard at league finals next week. I think she’s ready to run even faster next week,” said Hantgin.
Kiala Haas ran a personal best of 5:25.99 to win the mile for the San Marcos girls and was third in the 800 (2:28.33).
“Kiala ran her last race in the mile today. She looked amazing. Next week, she is going to focus on the 800 at league finals and try to make it through to CIF. I know she is ready to compete with our difficult league,” said Hantgin.
In the sprints, Ava Carter placed third in the 100 (12.74), second in the 200 (25.86) and was on the winning relay 4 x 400 and third-place 4 x 100 teams.
“Ava had season-best times today which is a great sign to run fast when the conditions aren’t ideal. She will be running against some very stiff competition next week, so it should be a really fun experience for her,” said Hantgin.
Santa Barbara
The Dons finished third in both the boys and girls varsity divisions
“Pretty good considering team scores weren’t a concern entering this meet,” said coach Olivia Perdices. “It was really more about setting kids up for the Channel League Finals next week and CIF beyond that. We had some kids, especially at jumps, put up some big numbers today.”
Sierra Gronquist won the county title in the girls pole vault with a personal best and school record of 10-5. She is the top vaulter in the Channel League.
“Just a beautiful jump and she’s got more big ones coming,” said Perdices.d
The Dons performed well in the field events.
Gianna Stump won the girls triple jump in a personal best of 36-10.5 and Davis Flanagin went 44-6 for the win in the boys triple jump. He also added a second in the long jump at 21-8.5 and third in the 100 meters at 11.36.
“I can’t say enough about what coach Matthew Oatis does with our horizontal jumps. It’s one of our deepest and strongest areas every year and that’s very much because of him,” said Perdices.
Sophomore Carter Battle went a personal-best 6-3 to win the high jump.
“I love how committed he is to learning the technical side of the event. He’s really putting the pieces together,” said Perdices.
Nicco Tassos (9:58.88) and Bode Andrulaitis (10:00.98) worked together to go 1-2 in a hot and windy 3200 meters.
“Those two have been trading pulls since cross country in the fall. I love how they share the work and bring home results,” said Perdices.
Anne Knecht won the 800 meters in 2:19.08 and London Moro took the 400 meters in 61:62.
“Both those girls went straight to the front and never looked back.”
Moro ran the leadoff leg of a second-place 4×400 meter relay that included Gronquist, Arielle Feinberg and Mackenna Show. “
Santa Barbara is at Oxnard for the Channel League Finals on Thursday. Pole vault will be contested on Wednesday at Ventura.
Dos Pueblos
The Charger boys finished second and the girls sixth in the varsity team standings.
The DP boys won the new 4×800 relay in 8:39.92. The runners were Andy Brennan, Connor Gates, Luci Koroshec and Finn Wright.
Koroshec took second in the 1600 with a 10-second personal record of 4:27.32.
Eoghan Gloster keeps climbing in the pole vault. He set a PR of 12-3, going three inches higher than his previous best. Joey Snodgress was second at 11-6 and Tommy Chase tied for third with a PR-equalling 11-0.
Dominic Corral took second in the 800 in 2:04.75, which lowered his personal record by over 3 seconds.
Conor Dolan finished in third in the 400 with a PR of 52.00 seconds.
Chris Pagliaro took fifth in the long jump at 20-7, a PR by over 10 inches.
The 4×100 relay team of Cole Adair, Gabriel Runyen, Kaleb Williams and Joel Felix placed third at 44.20.
On the girls side, Elizabeth Yancey took third in the long jump with a PR of 17-0. She was second in the 100m hurdles with a PR of 16.40 seconds.
Ellie Gleason was second in 800 with a 3-second PR.
Other Results
Santa Ynez’s Vincent Casey won the long jump with a county-meet record of 22-10. The mark also tied a 58-year-old school record. Gabriela Robles of the Pirates won the girls high jump at 4-10 and finished second in the pole vault at 9-6.
Bishop Diego’s Sué Luamanu took the boys shot put with a mark of 49-6.50 and was fourth in the discus.
Cate got wins from Seb Sutch in the boys 800 at 1:58.50 and Kennedy Kirkland in the girls 200 (25.65) and the long jump (17-9). She finished second in the 100 in 12.56.
Righetti’s Riley Allen won the girls 100 at 12.43. The boys 100 was won by Lompoc’s Anthony Alonzo in 11.03.
Isaiah Abrigo of Righetti took the boys 200 (22.99) and was on the Warriors’ first-place 4×100 relay (43.48), which edged Lompoc (43.98)
Righetti also won the girls 4×100 in 49.83.
