San Marcos cross country turned in a stellar showing at the Clovis Invitational this weekend, with both the boys and girls teams earning fourth-place finishes in Clovis.
August Singer had a historic day for the Royals, crossing the finish line in 15:22 to earn second place individually and set a new program record for the Clovis Invitational.
“August was out in front with two other runners for the entire race. He ran brilliantly today. He should be very proud of how he competed today against some of the best runners in the state,” San Marcos head coach Marilyn Hantgin said.
Singer was followed by teammates Nate Daughter (16:16), Everett Young (16:20), Audric Halberg (16:36) and Brogan Hemphill (16:49).
Elsie Tuttle recorded a personal-best time of 18:55 in the 5K race, and the San Marcos girls were rounded out by Autumn Richardson (19:12), Abby Herbst (19:27), Jane Demmin (19:42) and Maya D’Amour (20:37).
“Elsie looked strong the entire 5k. She ran out aggressively from the gun and didn’t look back,” Hantgin said. “These girls are starting to really gel and come together as a team. It’s special when athletes come together and end up running for each other.”
The Royals will take on the Goose Chase Invitational next weekend.
