San Marcos and Dos Pueblos flag football clinched co-Channel League championships on Tuesday with victories in their respective regular-season finales.
The Royals and the Chargers, both currently ranked in the top 10 of the CIF-SS power rankings, each went 13-1 in Channel League play, splitting their head-to-head matchups.
The two squads will await their CIF-SS playoff draws on Friday.
Dos Pueblos
The Chargers took care of business with a 34-18 win over crosstown rival Santa Barbara High on Tuesday at Peabody Stadium.
Dos Pueblos dominated the first half, rattling off four unanswered touchdowns to take a commanding 27-0 lead into the halftime break.
Kacey Hurley quarterbacked the Charger offense efficiently, throwing three touchdown passes to three different receivers.
Brooklyn Hedricks, Carly Letendre and Kindah Ahmad-Reda all hauled in scores, while Ruby Streatfeild also threw a touchdown pass to Taylor Grant. Ahmad-Reda also had two interceptions on the defensive end.
Hannah Kaminsky added a rushing touchdown, while Kaminsky and Hedricks tallied extra-point conversions to round out the Dos Pueblos scoring.
The Dons fought back in the second half thanks in part to big plays from Elina Stump, who rushed for a 50-yard touchdown and caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Laila Hernandez. Stump totaled 173 yards on the night.
“They definitely had a game plan to stop Elina, but she’s always going to find a way to have an impact on the game before it’s all said and done. She’s special,” Santa Barbara High head coach Travis Mañach said.
Santa Barbara also got a 9-yard rushing score from Camila Salcedo, who had 61 rushing yards and two sacks, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the first-half deficit.
On the defensive end, Marlowe Zacharias tallied two sacks and both Maria Cardozo Orozsco and Aurelia Agredano ended with five tackles for the Dons.
“This has been a fun group to coach,” Mañach said. “They really stuck together and played hard for one another. This was a tough league and we always played hard.
“I’m looking forward to see what this group can do in the future with all the experience gained playing in this tough league.”
Santa Barbara High ended the season at 3-11 against Channel League opponents and 7-14 overall.
San Marcos
The Royals rolled to a 40-0 Senior Night victory over Pacifica on Tuesday at Warkentin Stadium.
All six of the San Marcos seniors scored in Tuesday’s win, with Rio Chesluk scoring a pair of touchdowns while Janelle Capuno, Mia Richmond and Payton Sperling each found the endzone once.
Meanwhile, Harlyn Griffin, Rylie Cook and Chesluk all scored on extra-point attempts.
Victoria Aldana tossed four touchdowns for the Royals, the last of which going to Piper Kittle.
