The defenses took charge for the San Marcos and Dos Pueblos girls soccer team in a 0-0 Channel League draw on Tuesday at Warkentin Stadium.
The result leaves Dos Pueblos at 1-0-2 in league and San Marcos at 0-2-1.
“It was a fast and physical battle in the midfield,” DP coach Marco Medina. “Credit to Audrey Kling, Paulina Avina, Anastasia Brunner and Riley Roggero for working together in containing a very talented San Marcos midfield.
“For a rivalry game, not much more you can ask for from the players…they worked hard for 80 minutes.”
San Marcos coach Brian “Ziggy” Ziegenhagen said his team’s defense played a solid game and the offense generated some good scoring opportunities.
“Overall, the Royals dominated for the better part of the game, creating many chances but unfortunately was not able to convert it into goals.”
Despite the result, Ziegenhagen said he was “very happy with the girls’ performance, especially as it was our first home game. The girls showed great character throughout the whole game, sticking to our game plan and dominating both sides of the game”Â
San Marcos is back home on Thursday against Buena.
