San Marcos flag football had its season come to a close with a 19-14 loss to Redondo Union in the first round of the CIF-SS Div. 1 playoffs on Tuesday in Redondo Beach.

After a scoreless first quarter, Redondo Union dominated the second quarter and took a 13-0 lead into halftime.

The Royals found their groove in the third quarter, holding the Sea Hawks scoreless while Victoria Aldana rushed in a 4-yard touchdown and scored the extra point to cut the deficit to 13-7 with one quarter to play.

Redondo Union controlled the clock for much of the fourth quarter and extended its lead to 19-7 with a fourth-down touchdown with less than three minutes on the clock.

San Marcos marched down the field and scored on Aldana’s second rushing touchdown of the night, with Maya Llewellyn hauling in the extra-point conversion to make it 19-14.

However, the Royals’ onside kick attempt failed and Redondo Union ran out the clock to secure the win.

San Marcos ended the season with an overall record of 15-10, including a third-place finish in the Channel League.

Redondo Union will face off against Long Beach Poly in the second round on Saturday.
