San Marcos flag football picked up its fifth win of the season with a 19-12 victory over the Lompoc Braves on Tuesday.

Lompoc jumped on San Marcos early, taking the first play from scrimmage 60 yards on a reverse for a touchdown.

On the next drive by the Braves, junior Molly McCarter intercepted a pass to put the Royals in Lompoc territory.

The offense took advantage, as McCarter scored a 15-yard touchdown on fourth down off a pass from sophomore Rio Chesluk.

That score unlocked the San Marcos offense, as sophomore Peyton Sperling rushed in a touchdown from 7 yards out and junior Jazmin Ordaz hauled in a 15-yard touchdown pass by sophomore Mia Sturm. Freshman Andrea Obispo converted the extra-point attempt.

The Royals defense also settled in, not allowing a point for the rest of the half as San Marcos carried a 19-6 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Lompoc scored a touchdown but the Royals staved off any comeback effort en route to the win.

Defensively, Chesluk had two more interceptions to add to her impressive season-long total of nine through seven games.

San Marcos (5-2, 2-1 Channel League) will play host to Buena on Thursday.
