San Marcos football dominated from start to finish on its way to a 35-0 win over Del Sol in Friday’s home opener at Warkentin Stadium.
The Royals were strong on both sides of the ball against the Jaguars, who were playing the school’s first-ever football game.
Cole Dominguez got SM on the board on the opening drive with a short touchdown run to make it 7-0 at the 9:16 mark.
The Royals’ defense then took center stage as 8 hauled in an interception on Del Sol’s first play from scrimmage.
That turnover led to another touchdown run from Dominguez to quickly double the lead to 14-0.
That lead held until early in the second quarter when San Marcos scored off a turnover on downs on a Brody Green 34-yard rushing touchdown, the first of his career.

While the Royals’ defense continued to have its way with Del Sol, the offense capped off its first-half scoring with a rushing touchdown by Isaac Murillo on an end-around. That brought the score to 28-0 heading into the halftime locker rooms.
That score held for the entirety of the third quarter as both defenses came out of the break playing inspired.
San Marcos put the cherry on top of its victory in the fourth quarter as Tommy Diaz scored on a rushing touchdown to make it a 35-0 lead, which remained through the final whistle.
The Royals will look to keep it rolling at home against Paraclete next Friday at 7 p.m. at Warkentin Stadium.
