San Marcos football suffered a 21-0 shutout loss to Fillmore High in the Tri-County League opener on Friday in Fillmore.
The Royals (1-5, 0-1 Tri-County League) continued their offensive struggles, as they have managed just 15 points per game and have been shut out three times.
The Flashes opened up the game with a methodical drive down the field that ended in a rushing touchdown and a 7-0 lead with 5:50 to go in the first.
Following a three-and-out by San Marcos, Fillmore marched right back down the field and scored on the ground again to double the lead to 14-0 at the end of one quarter.
The Royals’ defense then buckled down for the majority of the night, as the 14-0 score held through the end of the third quarter.
The Flashes rounded out the game’s scoring early in the fourth quarter on another rushing touchdown to make it 21-0.
San Marcos had two more chances to get on the scoreboard but couldn’t move the ball, resulting in a Fillmore victory.
The Royals will return home next Friday to host Santa Paula, which fell to Agoura in its league opener, at 7 p.m. at Warkentin Stadium.
