San Marcos girls beach volleyball remained undefeated on the season with a 4-1 non-league win over Arroyo Grande on Saturday.
The Royals (3-0) will open up Channel League play against crosstown rival Santa Barbara High on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at East Beach, weather permitting.
San Marcos’ Cora Loomer and Evyn Miller earned a 21-12, 21-19 win at the No. 1 matchup to lead the charge.
“Loomer’s blocking and Miller’s siding-out carried the team through the match,” San Marcos head coach Tim Loomer said.
After a loss at the twos for the Royals, the No. 3 pairing of Malia Hetrick and Kelsey Rowe responded with a two-set win in their matchup, 21-16, 21-17.
“In both games Hetrick and Rowe put together timely streaks of points to pull clear of their opponents,” Tim Loomer said.
At court four, Lila Westmacott and Jeannie Johnson battled to a win in their first set before cruising in set two for the victory, 21-19, 21-8.
“The setting and attacking of Westmacott and Johnson were particularly solid throughout the match,” Tim Loomer said.
The Royals rounded out their performance when Jordan Schmoller and Isla McClintock earned a two-set win at the fives, 21-10, 21-15.
“Ball control, stout defense and consistent play were keys to their victory,” Tim Loomer said.
