San Marcos girls beach volleyball went 1-1 in a doubleheader with Santa Margarita and Mira Costa on Friday night at El Camino College.
The Royals began the action with a 4-1 victory over Santa Margarita before suffering a 5-0 sweep at the hands of Mira Costa.
In the win over Santa Margarita, Cora Loomer and Alina Stapf took care of business for San Marcos at the No. 1 court for a 21-17, 21-15 win.
After a loss at the twos, the Royals bounced back with Jeannie Johnson and Char Hastings taking down their opponents, 21-17, 21-18 at the threes.
Lila Westmacott and Isla McClintock won in straight sets on court four, 21-14, 21-15, and the No. 5 duo of Jordan Schmoller and Malia Hetrick battled to a three-set victory.
In the sweeping loss to Mira Costa, Loomer and Stapf were the lone San Marcos pairing to send their match into the third set.
“Seeing the girls buckle down and compete was encouraging,” San Marcos head coach Tim Loomer said. “This type of experience will help the team as we move forward in the season.”
The Royals (10-1) will take on Ventura High on Monday with sole possession of first place in the Channel League up for grabs.
