San Marcos earned a 5-0 win over Dos Pueblos in a rainy crosstown girls beach volleyball showdown on Wednesday at Ridgway Courts.

The Royals’ winning ways began at the No. 1 court, where Josie Gamberdella and Cora Loomer came out on top in straight sets over Dos Pueblos’ Halle Rillie and Jayden Jones, 21-12, 21-15.

“Loomer’s setting and Gamberdella’s shot selection were keys to the victory,” San Marcos head coach Tim Loomer said. “The high level of play by both pairs was appreciated by those who braved the weather to watch the match.”

After a pregame injury for the Chargers, San Marcos’ Sam Fallon and Evyn Miller picked up a win at the twos.

The No. 3 matchup was a battle between San Marcos’ Charlotte Hastings/Paige Hoadley and Dos Pueblos’ Allie Ben-Yaacov/Char Welch.

Hastings and Hoadley earned a dominant win in the first set but Ben-Yaacov and Welch bounced back with a set-two victory. However, the Royals regained control and took the third set 15-6 for the point.

“[Hastings and Hoadley] used a mix of blocking, aggressive attacking and solid serving to secure the win,” Tim Loomer said.

At the fours, Isla McClintock and Lila Westmacott came away with the two-set win, 21-7, 21-9.

“McClintock and Westmacott have developed a chemistry on the court that has the pair playing at a high level,” Tim Loomer said.

The duo of Reese Paskin and Malia Hetrick capped off the San Marcos sweep with a 21-10, 21-17 win at court five.

“Paskin’s offense and blocking continue to be dominant factors in matches while Hetrick brings a combination of focus and skill that keeps the duo pushing through points,” Tim Loomer said.

The Royals (12-1, 5-0 Channel League) will host Santa Barbara High for another crosstown matchup on Thursday at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, the Chargers will be on the road against Ventura on Friday.
