San Marcos girls golf pulled out a tight non-league victory over Royal High on Monday at Sandpiper Golf Course.

The Royals shot a combined team score of 261, while the Highlanders ended the day at 266.

“[Royal] is a well-coached team, so we knew it was going to take a strong effort to get a win,” San Marcos head coach Sarah Ashton said. “It was a beautiful day, but windy and cool. The course was pretty wet, so that made the conditions a little more challenging than usual.”

San Marcos’ Mia Rocha collected her eighth medalist honor of the season with her match-leading score of 46.

She was followed by Chloe Bellamy (49), Simrin Singh (52), Sierra Kaderali (55) and Karenna Saleh (59).

“Golf is a challenging sport both physically and mentally,” Ashton said. “I continue to be impressed by our team’s desire to improve and commitment to their sport and teammates.”

The Royals (8-4, 3-1 Channel League) will host crosstown rival Santa Barbara High on Wednesday at Sandpiper Golf Course.
