San Marcos girls golf pulled out a non-league victory over Santa Ynez High on Tuesday at Sandpiper Golf Course.

The Royals carded a team score of 266 to finish ahead of the Pirates and their total mark of 284 on the par-36 course.

“We were excited to have another opportunity to play them this season because we lost to them by a few strokes at their course earlier in the season,” San Marcos head coach Sarah Ashton said. “They are a strong team and we knew it was going to be a close one.”

Mia Rocha’s standout season continued for the Royals, as she shot a 49 to earn medalist honors for the 10th match of the year.

She was followed by teammates Chloe Bellamy (50),, Karenna Saleh (53), Simrin Singh (56), Cana Spieker (58) and Sierra Kaderali (67). Saleh and Spieker’s scores were personal bests.

“We are at the point in the season where the girls are pretty tired and balancing a lot with sports and academics as the semester wraps up, so I was really proud that they were able to put their focus into their golf and come away with the win,” Ashton said.

“Each of these girls is working hard in the classroom as well as out on the course and I know it’s a lot to balance. They continue to show dedication to their teammates and it’s nice to see how encouraging they are of one another.”

On the other side, Santa Ynez was led by Kacy Caplan’s score of 53. She was joined by Scarlett Ripley (54), Bella Sim (56), Savannah Hudley (58), Aubrey Jensen (63) and Eleni Dunkle (68).

San Marcos, now 10-4 overall and 4-1 in league play, will be on the road against Ventura on Thursday.
