The balance of the San Marcos line-up led the Royals to a 228-245 non-league girls golf win over Royal at Simi Hills Golf Course on Wednesday.
It was the 10th straight win without a loss for San Marcos.
Five players shot in the 40s for the Royals, led by Thayer Campbell’s 43. Talia Cummings fired a 44, Evelina Erickson carded a 45 and Fia Torrey and freshman Mia Rocha completed the scoring with 48s.
Christian Lim of Royal was the match medalist with a 42.
“This was a new course for us which can present a challenge, but the girls handled the novelty well and played the course wisely,” said coach Sarah Ashton.
Campbell made three pars in her round and Cummings had two.
“This group of girls is really playing well together, which makes our time on the course together really enjoyable,” said Ashton.

Providence 3, Dunn 2
The Patriots pulled out a 21-25, 25-15, 25-23, 22-25, 15-11 win in Los Olivos.
“It’s super tough to come back from dropping the fourth set,” said coach Taylor Slover. “We started slow, falling behind 5-9, but coming back to win in dramatic fashion.”
Junior Ava Wagner led the team in kills with seven, sophomore middle Olivia Leflang, who ended the night with six kills, two blocks and three aces.
Several servers had five or six aces on the night, and Providence finished with 29 aces. Senior libero Tessa Knoles led the defense with seven digs.
“This was a really hard-fought victory on the road tonight, during Dunn’s senior night and a gym packed with fans,” said Slover. “In the last half of the fifth game, we outscored them 10-2, showing how clutch these girls really were. Through the loud gym, they did their job when it mattered. It’s something we’ll never forget as a team. A very gritty win. I’m proud to be their coach.”
