San Marcos girls lacrosse earned the program’s first Channel League title with a 16-4 victory over Thacher on Saturday at Warkentin Stadium.
Along with clinching the league championship, the win was the Royals’ 14th of the season, which is also a program record.
It was all San Marcos from the opening whistle, as they raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to strong defense and high possession time on offense.
That dominance continued into the second quarter, where the Royals outscored Thacher 6-1 to take a commanding 11-1 lead into halftime with every player seeing the field.
“I like to get everyone involved early in the game,” San Marcos coach Paul Ramsey said. “It’s easy with this group since we’re so deep.
“It’s amazing how hungry we are to get the ball when it’s a loose-ball situation. It’s awesome.”
Sadia Adams led all scorers with an impressive six goals while Mia Martinez-Tomatis collected four goals and two assists of her own.
Missing third-leading scorer Gigi Mills, Clara Stump stepped up for San Marcos with a season-high four goals in the win. Meanwhile, Livanna Plourde facilitated well with three assists.
On the defensive end, Megan Taylor tallied seven saves in a strong day in the net.
The Royals (14-2) will host Dos Pueblos on Monday at 6 p.m. at Warkentin Stadium.
