A shorthanded San Marcos girls lacrosse team battled to a 7-4 non-league win over Oaks Christian on Friday night in Thousand Oaks.
The Royals’ defense led the charge, holding Oaks Christian to just one goal in the second half to pull away for the win. Goalkeeper Carly Grant collected seven saves for San Marcos.
“Tremendous game for Carly tonight,” San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey said. “Great saves and her clearing was the most accurate I’ve seen from her in her career.”
Meanwhile, Josephine Grossman took center stage for the San Marcos offense with a game-high five goals and one assist. Lyle Dessouky and Jane Smylie each tallied one goal and one assist as well.
“We really grinded it out tonight in a game that was not all that pretty as we adjusted to new players in new positions. Everyone here really pulled through for their teammates,” Ramsey said.
San Marcos (3-1) will host Saugus on Wednesday.
