The San Marcos girls put in a team effort at home against Pacifica Monday and came away with a 53-47 Channel League victory.

The three leading Royals scorers fell within two points of each other — Michelle Arellanes with 12, Mia Martinez-Tomatis 11 and Natasha Staph 10.

“Excellent team basketball tonight,” San Marcos coach Tiffany Simms said. “We started out with energy and ended with energy.

“In the third quarter when Pacifica started on a run, I just reminded the team to stay mentally focused and play one possession at a time. Defense was able to get a stop and a rebound that gave us that added spark to finish out the game.”

San Marcos avenges an earlier loss to the Tritons and moves up closer in the Channel League standings. The Royals are now 7-6 in league play, 13-9 overall. Pacifica falls to 8-4 in league, still in second place behind 10-3 Ventura.
