The San Marcos girls’ and Ventura boys’ swim teams captured the Channel League title at the championship meet on Thursday at San Marcos.
While the Royal girls led the local squads, the San Marcos boys placed second while Dos Pueblos took third in both the boys and girls meets.
San Marcos

Sierra Tallman turned in a historic performance to lead the Royals to the league title, breaking the Channel League record in the 200 IM (2:02.93) and setting a new San Marcos record in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.48).
Tallman beat out a 45-year-old record previously held by Anne Tweedy, a Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Hall of Famer and former Stanford star.
Taylor Steelman also picked up a pair of individual event wins in the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Sophie Yonker, Sophia Hall, Tallman and Steelman combined to break the Channel League record and take first place with a time of 1:37.36.
Yonker also swam a strong 50 freestyle in 24.08 seconds to contribute to the win.
On the boys side, Noah Warkentin led the way with stellar showings in the 100 breaststroke and 500 freestyle. Jacob Angel also placed second in the 500 freestyle and swam a personal best in the 200 IM
“Will Stuart and Mateo Obando both created leadership and energy in the pool,” San Marcos head coach Chuckie Roth said. “I am beyond happy for both the boys and girls.”
Dos Pueblos
The Chargers had a strong day in the pool on Thursday with a pair of third-place team finishes.
“Today, the energy on the pool deck was infectious and the cheering could be heard all across campus,” Dos Pueblos coach Chrissie Cable said.
Grant Nelson repeated as league champion in both the 200 IM and 100 butterfly to lead the way for the boys.
In the 500 freestyle, Ben Fuhrer, Andrew Davies-Nunez and Ty Abel all secured top-eight finishes. Liam Young and Eli Carnaghe came out on top in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle, respectively.
The Dos Pueblos girls scored big in the 200 IM as Dasha Dzreeva (2nd), Kiera McAvoy (5th) and Wynona Shea (8th) had strong showings.
Seniors Addison Parish, Megan Garner, Alina King, Hanalora Abel, Franki Court, Kay Taylor-Ng, Malcolm Iza and Jack McGibben all recorded personal-best swims to finish out their Charger careers.
Meanwhile, freshmen Ty Abel, Tyler Racine, Parker Bryant, Talia Marshall and Wynona Shea had solid showings in their first league championship meet.
Santa Barbara High
Jules Horton had a strong day for the Dons girls, taking third place in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle with a pair of CIF automatic qualifying times.
Meanwhile, Rose Nelley, Naleah Kvita La Riba and Yesi Dunn each swam two events in the consolation finals.
For the boys, Oliver Kelly finished in the top eight in both the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Calvin Nelley placed fifth in the 100 fly and ninth in the 200 IM.
Shane Davis, Will Stearns, Jack Fullbeck, Zach Camp and Lorenzo Russell each had two swims in the consolation finals.
