San Marcos girls swimming placed 17th at the CIF State meet on Saturday at Clovis Olympic Swim Complex.
The Royals’ squad that made the trip was made up of Sierra Tallman, Taylor Steelman, Sophie Yonker, Makenna Stretz and Sophia Hall
“I am beyond proud of my program and the girls who competed this weekend,” San Marcos coach Chuckie Roth said. “This was a team effort. This late in the season, it is hard to have peak performances all the time.
“We had some great swims and competed against the very best. All the swims are so competitive and decided by hundredths and tenths of a second. It was fun to be able to compete against the very best.”
Steelman had the best finish of the day for the Royals, placing fifth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:53.10. She was also 15th in the 200 individual medley at 2:04.14.
Both of Steelman’s times were All-American consideration marks.
Meanwhile, Tallman took home 12th place in the 200 freestyle (1:50.76) and 13th place in the 100 freestyle (51.09). She became the first Royal in 20 years to post All-American times in three events (200 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle).
In the relays, Steelman, Hall, Yonker and Tallman came together to earn 10th in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.21.
In the 4×100 freestyle relay, Hall, Tallman, Steelman and Stretz grabbed 13th place after finishing in 3:30.67.
The Royals posted All-American consideration times in the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
