San Marcos girls water polo cruised to a trio of blowout victories to begin the Villa Park Tournament on Thursday and Friday.
After a pair of wins on Thursday, a 18-4 rout on Friday gave the Royals a spot in the tournament’s semifinals on Saturday against Los Alamitos at 10 a.m.
Thursday
The Royals began the day with a blowout 14-3 win over the tournament’s host, Villa Park.
Charlotte Raisin, the reigning Athlete of the Week, turned in another solid performance with three goals, three steals and four ejections drawn.
Joining Raisin in the three-goal club was Lily Bordofsky, who added two assists and an ejection drawn to her trio of scores.
In their second game of the day, San Marcos took down Alto Loma by a score of 17-8.
Raisin was unstoppable on the offensive end in that one, netting seven goals. To go along with that scoring barrage, she also had four steals, two assists, two ejections drawn and a block.
Naomi Enright made an impact defensively, collecting six steals and a pair of assists.
The Royals (8-1) will continue Villa Park Tournament play on Friday.
Friday
In the team’s lone game of the day, San Marcos dominated La Jolla, 18-4.
Raisin continued her hot weekend at both ends of the pool, ending with seven goals and five steals in the victory.
Makenna Stretz and Marina Brown each had solid scoring days as well, netting three goals apiece.
In the cage, Serenity Stanfield picked up nine blocks to help the Royals to the semifinal-clinching win.
Santa Barbara 11, Cathedral Catholic 9
The Dons outlasted Cathedral Catholic for a two-goal victory on Friday.
Layla Szymczak stood out for Santa Barbara High, scoring seven goals in the win. Stella Gray also had a multi-goal effort with three goals.
Rose Nelley rounded out the scoring with a goal to go with her three steals on the defensive side.
Carpinteria @ Win the Sprint Tournament
The Warriors came away with a pair of wins over Hueneme and Foothill Tech in Santa Paula’s Win the Sprint Tournament.
Hazel Dugre and Giulia Piccoletti led the scoring attack on the day, scoring six times apiece across the two games.
Meanwhile, Lilli Nemetz (5), Sara Flora Fakinos (3) and Devyn Clayton (2) also scored more than once in both games.
Defensively, Allison Banks collected 11 blocks and a trio of assists while playing goalie. She also played the field, scoring a pair of goals on the day.
Dugre also made an impact on the defensive end with six steals.
“It’s impressive to see [Dugre’s] ability to take over the game with her aggressive play,” Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki said. “The starting 7 played good water polo today and controlled the pace of the game well to allow our reserves plenty of minutes.”
The Warriors (4-2) will play two more games in the tournament on Saturday. Â
