San Marcos High School senior and softball student-athlete Isa Malarkey will be taking her talents to the international level.

Malarkey has been selected to Argentina’s Senior Women’s National Softball team to compete in the XIII South American Games beginning on Saturday, Sept. 12 in Argentina.

“Representing Argentina is really special to me because it’s such a big part of my family and who I am,” Malarkey said. “My mom is from Argentina, and having my grandparents and family there watching me wear the Argentina jersey at the South American Games is going to mean a lot to me.”

The games will come to an end on Saturday, Sept. 26 and are set to feature over 4,000 athletes from 15 different countries competing in 43 sports and 60 disciplines.

Malarkey and the softball team will play from Sept. 15-19 at the Estadio Mundialista Ingeniero Nafaldo Cargnel in Parana, Entre Rios. They are set to take on Bolivia, Colombia, Brazil, Peru and Venezuela in the prelim rounds

The San Marcos standout has attended a pair of national team camps in recent years, but the 17-year-old will now get her first shot at international competition on one of the brightest stages.

She will look to carry over her success from her junior season last spring, where she ended with a team-best batting average of .446 and totaled 33 hits, 31 runs, 18 RBI and five home runs in 24 games played.
