A San Marcos fourth-quarter rally fell short in a 48-39 loss against Ontario-Colony in a MLK Showcase boys basketball team at the Toyota Arena, home of the L.A. Clippers’ G-League team, on Monday.

The Royals cut Colony’s lead to 41-39 with 27 seconds left. But the Titans went on a 7-0 run to finish the game.

Ben Treadway had 11 points and Andre McCullough added 10 to lead San Marcos.

“I am very proud of the way that our guys battled today,” said coach James Kinzler. “It was an amazing opportunity to play in the Toyota Arena on this day honoring MLK, and I thought our guys responded well. We were right there at the end with a chance to knock off a really good team in Colony, but just couldn’t get it done.

“We did get better today, though, and we will do our best to take that momentum into this week.”

The Royals (5-14 overall) return to Channel League with a game at first-place and CIF-SS Division 2AA top-ranked Oxnard on Wednesday.
