Middle attackers Jordan Schmoller and Sam Fallon got a lot of work done for the San Marcos girls volleyball in Thursday’s Channel League crosstown match at Dos Pueblos.

The pair combined for 13 kills and were a force on the block in leading the Royals to a 25-11, 25-9, 25-7 sweep over the young Chargers.

San Marcos improved to 3-0 in league and 6-1 overall while Dos Pueblos dropped to 2-1 and 2-9.

Lila Westmacott, who shares setting duties with fellow senior Avery Leck, said the San Marcos coaches have made it a point of emphasis to get the middles involved as much as possible.

“Our coaches have been kind of pushing us to work the middle at practice — establish the middle first and then work our pins, that helps us get one-on-one blocks,” Westmacott explained.

Fallon had three kills in the first set to help San Marcos break things open.

“That’s like the biggest part of our offense right now,” said Westmacott.

Schmoller dominated in the second and third sets.

“Me and Jordan connected really well,” said Westmacott, who compiled 21 assists.  “I just push every time; we had dime passes from our liberos Isla (McClintock) and Alina (Stapf) and it really helped us to establish our offense.”

With the middles putting balls away, San Marcos was able to score from all over the court. Charlotte Hastings, hitting from the left side and the back row, had eight kills, Cora Loomer produced seven kills from the left side Gracie Stone had six from the right and Reese Paskin collected six five kills.

“Yeah, it’s awesome,” said Westmacott of the abundance of weapons she and Leck have at their disposal. “We’re such a stacked team. We’re 15 seniors, all super close, and we all have a lot of good talent. It’s great to see it all come together on the court and work as one.”

San Marcos’s tough serving also made it tough for DP. Hastings went on six-point service run in the first set and delivered 15 straight points in the third.

Addison Low led DP with seven kills and four digs, Sammy Anderson added three kills and had six assists.

San Marcos hits the road Friday, heading up to San Luis Obispo for the 16-team, two-day SLO Town Tournament. DP, which started league play with two wins, plays at Ventura on Tuesday.
