In a battle of CIF-ranked teams, San Marcos and Oxnard battled to a 2-2 draw in a Channel League game on Monday night.

San Marcos, the Channel League champion and ranked 12th in the combined Southern Section Division 1-2 poll , got two goals from Leonel Olivo in the first half.

Oxnard, ranked fourth in Division 4, scored with 15 minutes to play and tied the game on a penalty kick in the final minutes.

“We had a great start to the match with Leonel’s well-taken goals, and we created lots of other chances to score,” said San Marcos coach Paul McLean. Oxnard’s midfield and wingers were very good and gave us great preparation for the type of opposition we will see in the upcoming CIF playoffs.

On his first goal, Olivo received a pass from Luke Sheffey and finished to left side of the goal. He scored again to the top right corner from 25 yards out.

The Royals (12-0-1, 13-1-3 overall) play Pacifica in their league finale at home on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
