A strong defensive performance in the second half propelled the San Marcos boys basketball team to a 63-48 Channel League win over Pacifica on Wednesday night at the Thunderhut.
The Royals pulled away after trailing by three at the end of the third quarter.
Wyatt Miller led San Marcos with 11 points, while Ben Treadway and Joe Pasternack each scored 10.
Coach James Kinzler credited the defense of Jonas Strand, Andre McCullough and Owen Lauderdale for leading the comeback.
“Jonas Strand and Andre McCullough really keyed our defense and rebounding effort tonight, and Owen Lauderdale was strong again inside,” said Kinzler. “Pacifica hit some tough shots and played really well. I was proud of our guys for maintaining our composure and playing the full 32 minutes.”
The Royals, 3-2 in league play, are back in action against Rio Mesa on Friday at home at 7 p.m.
