San Marcos loosened up after a first set loss at Oak Park and won the next three on Tuesday night to improve to 5-2 on the boys volleyball season. The scores were 23-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-22.

“We were  a little tight in set 1, but once again our setting allowed our offense to get into a groove in the last three sets”, said coach Roger Kuntz, had his full staff of Matt Walker and Preston Bies join him on the bench.

The Royals were effective in the middle with senior Kyle Foley and junior Landon Sheffey, who was making his first varsity start.

Mason Rice, a transfer from Santa Barbara High, played his first match with the Royals.

“He held down the outside hitting position opposite of junior Jack Wilson,” said Kuntz. “Mason’s older brother and his Dad played for us at San Marcos, and he has been a solid addition to our team.”

The Royals begin Channel League play on Thursday as they travel to Rio Mesa.
