San Marcos flag football senior Rio Chesluk was voted the Sports Illustrated National Girls Athlete of the Week last week for High School on SI.

Chesluk garnered 4,534 votes on the 15-person Sports Illustrated poll, which was good for 61.45% of the total votes and the victory.

The standout Royal was nominated for the honor after catching 12 passes for 110 receiving yards and three touchdowns in a 32-0 victory over Ventura High.

Chesluk has been a difference maker for San Marcos this season on both sides of the ball. Offensively, she has 88 receptions for 748 yards and 18 touchdowns to go along with seven rushing scores and seven passing touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, she leads the Royals with 10 interceptions.

Chesluk and San Marcos, which is now 17-3 and 8-1 in Channel League play, will continue their season with a critical crosstown matchup against Dos Pueblos (18-1, 9-0 CL) on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Goleta.
