San Marcos didn’t have an answer for Agoura’s Zane Miller in Wednesday night’s CIF-AA 2A Division first-round playoff basketball game.
Miller erupted for 50 points, including 20 in the third quarter, to lead the Marmonte League-champion Chargers to an 88-51 victory over the Royals.
Miller, a 6-foot-3 guard, and 6-6 Nasir Meyer, carried Agoura as they combined for 71 points and 22 of the team’s 27 in the second quarter. Meyer finished with 21 points.
San Marcos trailed by only five (17-12) after the first quarter before Miller and Meyer took over. Miller hit three three-pointers and scored 13 points and Nasir had 9 points in the second quarter as the Chargers outscored the Royals 27-14.
Agoura (20-9) stayed hot in the third quarter as Miller poured in 20 points, including another trio of threes. He finished with 9 three-pointers in the game.
“A tough way to see this season come to an end for sure,” said Royals coach James Kinzler. “A lot of credit to Agoura. They have some very nice players who obviously shot it very well.
“Proud of our guys for their season and for our growth and accomplishments as a team. It just wasn’t our night tonight.”
San Marcos (10-18) was led by Micah Jacobi with 12 points and Joe Pasternack with 10.
