San Marcos sailors Hope Campbell and Zoey Ziskind push for more speed during a race at the Pacific Coast Interscholastic Sailing Association Gold Pacific Coast Dinghy Championships in Long Beach.

The San Marcos sailing team qualified for the High School Fleet Racing National Championship by finishing in second place overall at the Pacific Coast Fleet Race at the U.S. Sailing Center in Long Beach last weekend.

The crews of Blake Behrens/Teo Lee, and Zoey Ziskind/Hope Campbell both placed second in their divisions at the Pacific Coast Interscholastic Sailing Association Gold Pacific Coast Dinghy Championships to earn a trip to the nationals at the Toms River Yacht Club in New Jersey, June 3-4.

Santa Barbara High’s sailing team finished ninth at the Pacific Coast Championships.

This is the second national championship qualification for San Marcos. The Royals earlier advanced to the ISSA Baker Team Race Nationals in Lake Minnetonka, Minn. That event is May 20-21.
