San Marcos’ Shams Jahangir-Arshad dominated his way to a Channel League Individual Championship on Tuesday at River Ridge Golf Course’s par 72 course.
Jahangir-Arshad finished the two-day championship 13-under-par, ending nine strokes ahead of the second-place finisher.
Over the two days of competition, he collected 14 birdies and just one bogey for his first Channel League individual title and a spot in the CIF-SS playoffs.
“[Jahangir-Arshad] has been so steady and so impressive that I think what he is doing is easy to overlook because he does it every single match,” San Marcos coach Jeff Ashton said. “His stats would compare to any high school golfer to come through SB.”
Also qualifying for CIF-SS postseason action from San Marcos were Jeffrey Forster (+5, 6th place) and Andy Keenan (+8, 8th place). Keenan punched his ticket in a playoff round against two other golfers.
The other golfers to compete in day two of the championship for the Royals were Austin Downing, Holdt Gore and Himmat Singh.
Dos Pueblos
Teddy Vigna continued his strong season with a fourth-place finish after shooting two-under-par across the two days of golf.
“Teddy credited his low round to great tee shots with his driver and good approach shots with his irons,” Chargers coach Kevin Ahlers said.
Meanwhile, Scott Nightingale will be joining Vigna in the CIF-SS playoffs after finishing in a three-way tie for seventh and advancing after a strong showing in the playoff hole.
“Scott credited his round to his solid putting and his driver shots put him in a great position,” Ahlers said. To see Scott put together a full solid round was exciting. When he is hitting it well he is very competitive.
“I’m excited to see what he and Teddy can do at Los Robles for individual regionals.”
Laith Reynolds and Colt Roberts also wrapped up their seasons on the second day of the Championships.
Santa Barbara High
The lone Don to advance into the CIF playoffs was Alex Ortega, who capped off a solid two days of golf with a fifth-place finish.
Liam Horn, Graham Chapman and Elliott Blinderman also teed it up for Santa Barbara High on Tuesday.
The San Marcos trio, the Dos Pueblos duo and Ortega will compete in the CIF-SS Northern Individual Regionals at Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks next Wednesday, May 8.
