San Marcos’ Shams Jahangir-Arshad put on a show on his home course, winning the Santa Barbara City Golf Championship on Monday at Santa Barbara Golf Club.

The high school senior who will golf at the University of Oregon next year ended the three-day, 54-hole championship at five-under-par to take home the hardware.

“To get the win is just an amazing feeling, I’ve been dreaming of winning this tournament, and to win it now is a special feeling,” Jahangir-Arshad said. “All my friends and the locals out there were really behind me today and that meant a lot to know they were supporting me.

“To finish with that big cheer (on hole 18) was just an amazing feeling.”

Following an impressive five-under-par performance on Sunday, Jahangir-Arshad got off to a bit of a slow start on Monday before finding his groove on the back nine.

“I was playing a little bad and I had that amazing chip in on hole 14 that kind of settled the nerves,” Jahangir-Arshad said. “From there I was one up on (Scott) Murphy and I just kept telling myself ‘get one up going into 18’ (because) I knew I could get a birdie there.”

The city championship was the latest accomplishment in a stellar 2024 for Jahangir-Arshad, who won the individual Channel League title and led the Royals to a second-place finish at the CIF-SS Div. 1 Finals.

“It’s been a special year throughout high school and to add this one to the list is just amazing,” Jahangir-Arshad said.

Scott Murphy finished in second place with a total score of three under par while Jed Dy slotted into third place at one under par.

Meanwhile, Drew Miller and two-time defending champion Leo Metzger finished the weekend at even par to tie for fourth. San Marcos’ Jeffrey Forster was one-over-par, wrapping up the top five.

The Men’s Net City Championship also came to a close on Monday, with three winners being decided after three days of play.

Dale Keene won the Palmer Flight at 11-over-par, Ron Goodman finished well in front of the competition at 13-over-par in the Hogan Flight and Brian Milner earned the win in the Nicklaus Flight at 14-over-par.

Sandra Featherson came away with the victory in the Women’s Net Championship with a final three-day tally of eight-under-par.
