San Marcos boys and girls swimmers took first place in the Channel League meet Thursday.

For the Royals girls, it was their eighth consecutive league title. The San Marcos boys share this year’s title with Dos Pueblos, which placed second at Thursday’s meet.

Dos Pueblos also placed second in the girls’ meet, and Santa Barbara placed fourth in both girls and boys.

Full team scores are below.

San Marcos

The San Marcos girls set a new Channel League meet record in the 200 freestyle relay, finishing in 1:37.40. The team consists of Sophia Panossian, Ava Stryker, Sierra Tallman, and Elaia Hamilton. The previous record was set by San Marcos in 2017.

Individually, San Marcos’ Taylor Steelman was a double event winner, placing first in the 500 freestyle in 5:05.36 and the 100 backstroke, in 59.86.

Winning one event each were Ava Stryker, (100 freestyle in 52.36), Sierra Tallman (100 breaststroke in 1:07.67), and Elaia Hamilton (50 freestyle, 24.38), in 24.38). Hamilton was second, behind Stryker, in the 100 freestyle in 53:00.

For the San Marcos boys, Jaran Depew took first in the 500 freestyle in 4:51.28. The Royals also took first in the 4×50 freestyle relay, in 1:31.08. That team consisted of Jaran Depew, Jake Magid, Alexi Stapf, and Tanner Williams.

“Despite only winning two events, it was our depth in all events that pushed us over the top,” San Marcos boys coach Peera Sukavivatanachai said.

“I really want to commend Gavin Tallman on his efforts today,” coach Peera said. “He’s recovering from a fractured elbow that happened four weeks ago. His resilience and mental toughness to swim and place in the top 8 in both his individual events speaks to his character not only as an athlete but as a leader.

“From the start of the meet carrying a memorable team cheer all the way until his team’s final race, he was supportive the entire way and I could not be more proud of the athlete and leader he has really grown to be.”
