San Marcos boys and girls swimmers beat Santa Barbara Thursday, and both schools had some outstanding performances.
The meet ends the dual meet season, and the Channel League prelims will be held at Santa Barbara High School on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. start. The finals start at 2 p.m. Thursday.
In the girls meet Thursday, San Marcos prevailed 74-65 to remain undefeated on the season.
First place finishers for San Marcos:
200 Medley Relay — Lucy Haaland Ford, Madison Haaland-Ford, Makenna Stretz, and Sophia Panossian, time of 1:58.57.
200 IM — Makenna Stretz, 2:17.64
200 Freestyle Relay — Sophie Yonker, Elaia Hamilton, Makenna Stretz, Sophia Panossion, 1:41.47
“In addition, Sophie Yonker had a great all around day,” San Marcos girls swim coach Chuckie Roth said. “She swam well in her relays and her 100 Free. Kate Meyer, Lucy Haaland Ford, and Bethany king, and Makenna Stretz all had some great efforts.”
For the Santa Barbara girls, Nalani Yim won the 50 and 100 free (53.18), both in automatic CIF qualifying times.
Abby Webber won the 200 and 500 free in CIF consideration times.
Sofia Stevens had consideration qualifying times in the 100 back, 100 free and 50 free.
On the Dons boys side, Gabriel Gil won the 200 IM and placed second in the 100 back in a CIF consideration time. Oliver Kelly placed third in the 200 IM and 100 breast. Shane Davis finished second in the 200 free. Simon Lysek tied for second in the 100 fly.
Channel League Girls Diving Finals
For San Marcos, Kate Edgar scored 328.50 to capture the girls Channel League 1-meter dive competition.
The Royals’ Bridget Cunnison scored 322.30 to place second in the field of five divers.
“Both divers have shown tremendous improvement and have dedicated many afternoons to their new-found sport,” Chuckie Roth said. “Coach Michael Martz has done a great job with our divers, and we are so fortunate to have such a great combination of eager learners, hard workers and a phenomenal coach.”
