The San Marcos doubles team of Ronin Suzuki and Charlie Friedman and singles player Joey Friedman both swept their sets without the loss of a single game in leading the Royals to a 13-5 win over Santa Barbara in a Channel League match Tuesday.
San Marcos heads to San Marino Wednesday for a non-league match against a Division 1 team and then faces a key league match with Dos Pueblos on Thursday.
The Royals are 5-0 in league play and 10-2 overall.
Dos Pueblos 16, Santa Ynez 2
The Dos Pueblos boys swept all nine doubles sets on the way to a 16-2 win over visiting Santa Ynez in a Channel League tennis match Tuesday.
“We had some great playing by 10th grader Connor MacPherson today in singles, winning all three of his sets, as well as got to try out some different combinations in doubles too,” Dos Pueblos coach Laura Housinger said.
“The wind was difficult for all players but both DP and SY played well in the conditions.”
The Chargers improve to 4-1 in league play and 10-1 overall.
“Dos Pueblos is the third-ranked team in (CIF-SS) Division 2 and was just too strong for us, and while we put up a good fight in a few sets, the outcome was never in doubt,” Santa Ynez coach Nate Thompson said.
“Noah Thompson and Jacob Merrill each won a set for us, and I was very happy with how Marc Westall and Luc Colin played today as they almost beat DP’s number two doubles team.”
