Santa Barbara scored the first goal, but then it was all San Marcos in a 19-2 Channel League win Tuesday.

Royals senior Sofia Martinez-Tomatis led all scorers with four goals and three assists. Senior Emma Neal and sophomore Ellie Monson also had four goals each, with Neal adding an assist. Senior Alessia Lala three goals and two assists.

San Marcos sophomore goalie Megan Taylor had four saves, and her Dons counterpart freshman Olivia Fernandez had 10 saves.

“Santa Barbara came out high energy and they never give in so we really respect their efforts every time we play,” San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey said.

“But our midfield crushed it out there, and our defense can be pretty stingy so we can grind when we need. Then when our offense started clicking it was a lot of shots for Fernandez to have to face.”

The Royals improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in Channel League, and will face Dos Pueblos Thursday at Warkentin Stadium at 6 p.m. in another rivalry showdown.

Dos Pueblos 15, Thacher 4

Avery Ball led the Chargers with five goals and four assists in a Channel League win at Thacher Tuesday.

Cait Duncan added four assists and Autumn Litten two.

The Chargers improve to 2-0 in league and play at San Marcos, which has an identical league record, on Thursday. Dos Pueblos is 10-1 overall.

Thacher is “historically a tough competition for us,” Charger coach Samantha Limkeman  said. “We knew we had to go into the game focused and ready to play our hearts out.”

“Autumn Litten was all over ground balls and picked up a whopping eight throughout the game,” Limkeman said. “I am so glad she was there — her stick was like a vacuum and we really needed that on the field. Eloise Shea and Alice Sperling also helped the Chargers gain or keep possession by picking up four ground balls each this game.”
