San Marcos kept the game close, but Capistrano Valley Christian pulled away at the end for a 64-48 defeat of the Royals in a second-round CIF-SS Division 2A playoff game Friday.
Max Sheldon scored 13 points to lead San Marcos, Julian Hicks added 12 and Thomas Kinzler chipped in 10. Junior Shakir Ahmad scored eight points.
“John Connolly was a force on the boards and leading our break,” Royals coach Jelani Hicks said. San Marcos led at halftime.
“Great effort,” Hicks added. “Proud of the way our guys fought and competed the whole game. Hat’s off to a good team.”
San Marcos finishes with an 11-5 record, including a perfect 10-0 in Channel League play.
