San Marcos fell into a 14-0 hole in the first quarter and couldn’t dig itself out, falling 46-14 at Oxnard in a Channel League football game on Friday night at Houser Field.

Oxnard scored on its first possession and then capitalized on a San Marcos fumble with a second score.

The Royals got on the board in the second quarter after an interception by Owen Lauderdale. The touchdown came on a pass from quarterback Josh Engel to wide receiver Luke Crawford.

San Marcos’ momentum was short lived as the Yellow Jackets returned the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown, expanding their advantage to 22-6.

Engel connected with Lauderdale and the Royals converted a 2-point conversion to cut the deficit to 22-14 in the third quarter.

But Oxnard answered with a touchdown and 2-point conversion to go ahead 30-14. The Yellow Jackets tacked on two more scores to win their second Channel League game.

San Marcos falls to 1-5 in league and 3-5 overall. Oxnard is 2-4 and 4-4.
