Thomas Kinzler’s 16 points led San Marcos to the team’s second defeat of Santa Ynez in as many days Tuesday, prevailing 64-49.

The Royals are now 9-0 in Channel league play, and they clinch the league title outright for this pandemic-altered season with the win, with one game yet to play.

John Connolly added 13 points for San Marcos.

“Great road win,” Royals coach Jelani Hicks said. “Great rebounding effort from Thomas, John and Shakir (Ahmad) tonight. Balanced effort from everyone, great team win.”

Santa Ynez’s Landon Lassahn led all scorers with 22 points, and added seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal.

“Another tough loss from the new Channel League champs,” Pirates coach Walter Tyler said. “Congratulations San Marcos!”

Santa Ynez is now 4-5 in league play.

San Marcos finishes the league season Thursday against Dos Pueblos.
