The San Marcos girls lacrosse team improved to 3-0 with a 16-2 win over visiting Notre Dame High School of Sherman Oaks. Both teams are in CIF-SS Division 3.

Royals senior Sofia Martinez-Tomatis led all scorers with three goals and two assists. She opened the scoring with an unassisted goal a little more than two minutes into the game, and San Marcos built to a 6-1 halftime lead.

Sophomore Nadia De Leon scored one goal and freshmen Gigi Mills also had one, the first career goals for both. The Royals cleared the bench early, and nine different players scored goals, and everyone who suited up played a lot.

“It was a scrappy game early and Notre Dame played hard, but we were better on the 50/50 balls and cleaned everything up that was on the ground,” San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey said.

“We have a lot of players willing to do the dirty work to get the ball for their team. It makes a big difference for us.”

Royals goalie Valerie Velazquez made six saves.

“We were finishing and the other team wasn’t getting many opportunities to score the way we’re playing and how Valerie stepped up big for us,” Ramsey said.

“I was happy to see that it was going that way for us today and to be able to work everyone in for a lot of playing time for everyone.”

The Royals play at Valencia on Tuesday in a 6 p.m. game.
