The Royals’ sophomore girls earned 3rd-place team honors, led by Baylie Bingham in 3rd place, Melina Vela 4th place and Colette Keller 9th place.
The San Marcos freshman girls team also finished third, led by Samara Shalhoub and Malina Murray taking 5th and 6th places, respectively.
In the varsity boys race, the top Royals’ finisher was Bryan Edgar in 19th followed by Leland Sutter in 52nd place.
“Most of the team had never run at Mt. SAC, which is a very difficult hilly course,” San Marcos cross country coach Marilyn Hantgin said. “I am super proud of all of our runners. They competed very well and persevered through some tough elements.
“I’m really looking forward to the next few weeks at our county and league championships.”
