San Marcos senior Jessica Norman placed 16th at the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 Diving Championships in Mission Viejo on Wednesday, the highest-placing diver in school history.
Norman is an accomplished gymnast who recently switched to diving and competed in her first season at San Marcos. Obviously a quick study, her highlights this season included setting the San Marcos girls diving record and winning the Channel League finals.
“Her pace of progression over the past four months has been phenomenal,” said San Marcos diving coach Mike Martz. “To reach the finals at CIF and place 16th as a first year diver among a field of athletes who have been completing in club diving since they were little kids, is a remarkable accomplishment.”
The CIF-SS D1 Finals were held at the Marguerite Aquatics Complex in Mission Viejo.
“Starting in January as a new diver, I never expected to qualify for CIF,” Norman said. “I’m very happy with how this season went and am extremely grateful for Coach Mike’s enthusiasm and guidance.”
