Freshman Shaina King of San Marcos took first place in the girls 3-mile race, and the Royals placed second in the girls and boys team competitions at the Twilight Invitational cross country event on Wednesday at Lake Casitas.

King took the lead right before the 1-mile mark and held off the competition to win in 19:52. Madison Funk of the Royals came in 11th in 21:03 and was followed by Louisa Zadeh  (19th in 21:56), Talia Hamilton (21st in 21:59) and Kathryn Chenoweth (39th, 22:57.3).

The Royals were tied with Fillmore for second place, and Ashley Parker broke the deadlock with a better time for No. 6 runners. She came in at 22:57.4.

Camarillo won the girls team title.

The San Marcos boys finished behind Fillmore. Will Snyder was the top individual, taking fourth place in 16:24, and Jacob Snodgress was seventh in 16:33. He was followed by Ethan Dwelley (16th, 17:03), Chase Plourde (17th, 17:06) and Arran Dwelley (18th, 17:08).
