Caitlyn Early went 5-for-6 with two home runs and four RBI to lead San Marcos to a 21-5 win over Santa Ynez in a Channel League game Tuesday.

Kamilah Morales and Tiana Monaghan both had three hits, with Monaghan driving in three runs. Bella Cruz and Cassandra Perez had two hits apiece, with Cruz getting four RBI and Perez two.

Starter Kate Guerra went the distance, striking out four and allowing six hits in six innings.

The Royals are now 11-11 overall and tied with Lompoc at 10-3 in league play.

San Marcos plays in the Best of the West tournament in Santa Maria Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and are at home against Lompoc on Monday.

San Marcos girls narrowly fall to Harvard Westlake

The San Marcos girls swim team lost a close one to CIF-SS Division 1 Harvard Westlake Tuesday, but notched strong performances in the process.

Senior Holly Woodhouse won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.93, freshman Sierra Tallman came in second in the 200 freestyle and won the 100 butterfly in 59.80, while diver Jessica Norman stayed undefeated with a winning score of 234.75.

“I was really proud of our girls,” San Marcos girls swim coach Chuckie Roth said. “We seek to find the best competition for our team, and I was proud to of our girls’ ability to compete at the

highest level.

“There was many small milestones that were conquered today and will pave the way for dynamic success next week and into CIF.”

San Marcos hosts the Channel League tournament next week. Varsity prelims will be on Tuesday, Junior Varsity prelims on Wednesday, and League finals on Thursday. All events for Channel league start at 2 p.m.
