“We started out tenacious everywhere, but there were moments like their first run that distanced them,” said San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey. “Two five-goal runs by Oak Park and they win by five. Change one of those runs and we’re right there.”
The Royals scored the last goal of the first half and the first goal of the second half to close to within two goals at 6-4 with 23:34 remaining in the game. But Oak Park responded with another five-goal run. San Marcos notched the last two goals of the game for the final 12-7 score.
“The effort from our players at getting back up to game speed coming off spring break is to be commended,” said Ramsey, “but we are still looking for two good halves in one game.”
San Marcos dropped to 0-3 and plays next against Simi Valley on April 10 at Warkentin Stadium.
