San Marcos dominated from start to finish in a 17-4 non-league girls lacrosse win over Nordhoff on Monday.
The Royals outshot the Rangers 17-3 in the first half and 12-7 in the second half. They scored on 8 shots in the second half.
“The players were chomping at the bit to go to goal every time we got the ball, but finding the balance of being able to possess and score is going to help us later,” said San Marcos coach Paul Ramsey. “I’m glad we were able to do that.”
Freshman goalie Megan Taylor made her debut in the game for the Royals and had four saves while allowing four goals in 50 minutes of game time.
“Megan Taylor took advantage of her first game in goal and more than just her saves, she was 100% on clears,” said Ramsey. “I’m really happy she rose to this level her first time being called on to be a goalie.”
Junior Sofia Martinez-Tomatis and senior Meiya Sidney led all scorers with three goals and two assists each. Senior defender Lily Stevens scored her first varsity goal.
San Marcos improves to 2-5, 1-1 while Nordhoff drops to 0-3, 0-1. The Royals host Santa Barbara in a cross-town rivalry game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
