San Marcos fell behind 8-2 in the first half and dropped an 11-5 decision against Thacher in the first round of the L.A. Lacrosse Foundation girls Division 2 playoffs on Tuesday.

Thacher broke the game opne with a five-goal run during a 6:11 span in the first half.

“Thacher was really good at the draw control for that stretch and they won too many ground balls,” said San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey.  “They were super-efficient on offense with those possessions, so I can only say hats off to them.”

San Marcos goalie Shana Friedenberg had 8 saves in the effort and Ami Hammond finished with a career-high three goals.

For Thacher, Sydney Rosenbaum poured in six goals.

San Marcos made history by qualifying for a playoff spot for the first time in program history.

“This is a nice step forward for us having made the post-season for the first time,” said Ramsey. “We are going to build on it.”
