Freshman Stella Ashmalla and senior Caya Castelo were co-medallists for the San Marcos girls, who prevailed over Lompoc in a Channel League match at La Purisima on Wednesday, 304-352.
Ashmalla and Castelo both shot 56. Pattie Matzie was the low scorer for Lompoc with 60.
Ashmalla “shot her personal best and carded a birdie on hole 3, which is a par three over water,” Royals coach Sara Ashton said. “She also had only 17 putts which is especially impressive at La Purisima. She has been steadily improving throughout the season and is having a fun time on the course.
“I continue to be impressed by Caya’s leadership,” Ashton added. “She is the only senior and leads the rest of the team, all freshmen, with poise and a calm demeanor.”
