Juli Alaniz made the move from centerback to striker pay off as she scored the equalizing goal for San Marcos in a 1-1 draw against Cabrillo on Tuesday in a Channel League girls soccer match.
The Royals held most of the possession but struggled in the attacking third of the field.
“Overall, we played better as a team than we had been playing,” said San Marcos assistant Sofia Smati. “We had really good momentum with outside back Jasmyn Moreno impacting the attack. We unfortunately missed a lot of opportunities up top.”
San Marcos fell to 1-3-1 in league.
